University of Toronto Undergraduate Courses
During my time as a graduate student at the University of Toronto, I participated in a variety of undergraduate-level courses as a teaching assistant. I prepared and ran lectures and tutorials on topics from biology, mathematics, and neuroscience. I created testing materials and evaluated student performance on written and oral presentations of their work, and provided detailed feedback in evaluations for students to improve. I sought out feedback from my students directly so that I could continue to improve as an educator. From this exercise, I learned that many students wished for additional help in scientific writing, data analysis, and visualization techniques, so I was able to create tutorials to address these gaps.
In addition to presenting information in lecture and tutorial settings, I conducted technical demonstrations of experimental procedures, and assisted students in conducting their own laboratory work. This included teaching diagnostic and troubleshooting skills so that students could become more self-sufficient scientists.
